On August 29, 2026, the Rotary Club of Accra-Airport, in a significant partnership with the Street Children Empowerment Foundation (SCEF), provided essential back-to-school supplies to over 200 street-connected children in Accra. The distribution event, held at the Wesley Methodist Basic School, was organized under the theme “Quality Education: The Pathway to a Brighter Future.” This initiative aimed to bridge the resource gap for vulnerable students, ensuring they are well-equipped to return to the classroom with the necessary tools for academic success.
The donated items included a wide range of academic essentials such as exercise books, pens, and other critical learning materials. Beyond the material support, the program featured a unique vision board activity designed to help the children reflect on their aspirations and identify the specific skills required to achieve their goals. Representatives from the Kempinski Hotel also participated in the event, offering motivational talks that encouraged the students to explore various career paths and maintain a steadfast commitment to their studies despite their challenging circumstances.
Speaking at the ceremony, Rotarian David Kwatia Nyante, President of the Rotary Club of Accra-Airport, emphasized that education remains the most powerful tool for life transformation. He urged the beneficiaries to pursue their academic dreams with determination and called for continued community support for vulnerable populations. Paul Semeh, the founder of SCEF, echoed these sentiments, highlighting the importance of providing children with a platform to articulate their future plans. One of the beneficiaries, Mary Lamptey, expressed her profound gratitude for the donation, noting that the support provides a vital lifeline in her educational journey.
This collaborative effort underscores the critical role of non-governmental organizations and service clubs in supplementing national efforts to achieve inclusive education. By focusing on street-connected children—a group often overlooked in traditional educational outreach—the Rotary Club and SCEF are actively working to break the cycle of poverty through literacy and skills development. The success of the “Quality Education” initiative serves as a call to action for other corporate and civic bodies to invest in the potential of Ghana’s youth to ensure no child is left behind in the pursuit of knowledge.
