Fibre Broadband Is a Household Utility, Not a Tech Luxury, Says Samuel Boateng

Fibre broadband is frequently misunderstood as a complex technical upgrade reserved for the tech-savvy, but industry experts are working to demystify the technology for the average Ghanaian household. Speaking on the #JoyGeekSquad platform, Samuel Boateng highlighted that fibre should be viewed as an essential utility, comparable to water or electricity, rather than a luxury. By providing a faster and significantly more stable connection than traditional mobile data or older copper lines, fibre serves as the backbone for a modern home’s digital infrastructure, ensuring that connectivity remains consistent regardless of the number of active users.
The practical advantages of transitioning to fibre are most evident in multi-user environments where bandwidth demand is high. Unlike traditional connections that often lag or disconnect when multiple devices are active, fibre broadband allows for simultaneous high-bandwidth activities. This means one household member can participate in a high-definition video conference for work while others engage in remote learning, stream entertainment, or follow online tutorials without any degradation in service quality. This stability effectively removes the "bandwidth anxiety" often associated with shared home internet connections.
Demystifying the transition process, experts emphasize that adopting fibre does not require significant technical knowledge or a massive change in daily habits. Instead, it requires a fundamental shift in how users perceive their relationship with the internet—moving from a mindset of rationing data to one of utilizing a reliable, always-on resource. By making small adjustments to their home connectivity setup, users can unlock the full potential of the digital economy, making everything from remote professional collaboration to personal skill development more efficient and accessible for every member of the family.
