The Savannah Regional Peace Council has successfully concluded a comprehensive two-day training program designed to equip Community Peace Agents and Local Peace Committee members with essential conflict prevention and dispute resolution skills. Focused on vulnerable border communities including Kukuteen, Garmayiri, Jinavore, and Lewuriyiri, the initiative aims to establish a robust framework for identifying early warning signs and implementing non-violent responses to local tensions. This strategic intervention is part of a broader effort to strengthen community resilience and maintain social cohesion within the Savannah Region.
Throughout the interactive sessions, participants explored the complex dynamics of conflict, emphasizing the necessity of addressing root causes rather than merely responding to visible triggers. The training modules covered vital areas such as mediation, negotiation, and the principles of impartiality. Peace agents were encouraged to prioritize careful fact-finding and transparent advocacy, which the Council identified as critical components for building public trust and ensuring that disputes are resolved fairly and sustainably. By focusing on these core skills, the training empowers local actors to intervene effectively before grievances escalate into larger crises.
Local residents and trainees shared positive feedback on the program, highlighting how the sessions reshaped their understanding of peacebuilding. Participants engaged in dialogue regarding the challenges faced in community mediation and the importance of fostering collaboration across different social groups. By adopting a knowledge-based approach and emphasizing the value of multiple perspectives, the Savannah Regional Peace Council is fostering a culture of responsible leadership. These newly trained agents are now positioned to serve as critical mediators who can de-escalate potential violence and promote a climate of long-term peaceful coexistence in their respective communities.
