The Volta North Regional Police have arrested 31-year-old Saviour Dzadze in Kpando for the unlawful possession of an AK-47 assault rifle and other firearms. The arrest on October 14, 2026, was the result of a swift police response to a report of life-threatening behavior. Authorities moved to secure the suspect after a formal complaint was lodged by a resident who feared for his safety following an alleged confrontation.
The investigation was initiated after Dzodzi Kofi Kpakpamikpe reported to the police on October 8, 2026, that the suspect had issued death threats against him. Following this report, law enforcement officers obtained a search warrant and conducted a thorough sweep of Dzadze’s residence. The search led to the discovery of a significant cache of weaponry, including the military-grade AK-47 rifle, a pump-action shotgun, and a locally manufactured single-barrel gun.
During questioning, Dzadze provided details on how he came to possess the illicit arms. He allegedly admitted to cultivating Indian hemp and subsequently trading the narcotic substance to obtain the AK-47 assault rifle. He also informed investigators that the pump-action shotgun found in his home had been provided to him by his brother. In addition to the weapons, police seized a quantity of suspected Indian hemp found during the search of the premises.
The suspect is currently being held in police custody as officials deepen their investigation into the illegal arms trade and the distribution of narcotics in the area. Saviour Dzadze is expected to appear in court on October 16, 2026, to face formal charges. This arrest highlights ongoing efforts by the Ghana Police Service to track down unlicensed weapons and curb violent threats within local communities.
