Shatta Wale Rebukes Jomoro MP Dorcas Affo-Toffey for Stage Interruption at 2026 NkrumahFest

The 2026 NkrumahFest was marked by a tense confrontation between dancehall sensation Shatta Wale and the Member of Parliament for Jomoro, Dorcas Affo-Toffey. The incident unfolded during Shatta Wale’s live set when the MP reportedly attempted to approach and speak with the artist on stage. Shatta Wale, who is known for his dedication to his craft, did not take the interruption lightly, leading to a heated exchange that was captured on video and quickly circulated across social media platforms. During the encounter, Shatta Wale was seen fuming at the legislator, making it clear that his performance space was not the place for such interactions. He was heard asserting his professional boundaries, telling the MP, "I am working in my office." This statement has since become a focal point of discussion, with many fans and industry insiders debating whether the stage should be treated with the same level of professional respect as a traditional office environment. The incident has prompted a reaction from fellow high-profile musician Okyeame Kwame, who shared his perspective during an interview with Adom FM. The "Rap Doctor" expressed his firm disapproval of the stage interruption, stating that "it isn’t right" for any artist to be disturbed while performing. Okyeame Kwame’s comments underscore a broader sentiment within the Ghanaian music industry regarding the need for better protocols and respect for performers' creative and professional spaces during major events. This clash at NkrumahFest highlights a recurring issue in the entertainment industry where the boundaries between public service and professional entertainment become blurred. While the exact reason for the MP’s attempt to speak with Shatta Wale remains a subject of speculation, the backlash suggests a growing demand for event organizers to ensure that performers are allowed to complete their sets without interference. As the conversation continues, the event serves as a landmark moment in defining stage etiquette for both public officials and artists in Ghana.
