Shatta Wale Pledges Free SRC Performances and Urges UPSA Students to Cultivate Entrepreneurial Mindsets

Ghanaian dancehall icon and entrepreneur Shatta Wale electrified the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) on September 16, 2026, during the UPSA 1000 and Ghana Entrepreneurship Conference. Addressing a packed audience of students and faculty, the musician shared personal insights into his journey as both a global music brand and a businessman. His appearance was marked by a call for students to look beyond their academic qualifications and embrace the practical realities of the modern economy through discipline, reinvention, and the power of innovative ideas.

During his address, Shatta Wale challenged the students to develop a robust entrepreneurial mindset, emphasizing that long-term success is rooted in vision, preparation, and adaptability. He urged the youth to prioritize problem-solving and lifelong learning, noting that the ability to manage wealth and sustain a business is far more critical than achieving initial fame or success. By transforming challenges into opportunities, he argued, young Ghanaians can build a mindset capable of navigating the complexities of the professional world without becoming complacent.

The highlight of the event was a surprise performance that energized the campus, followed by a significant philanthropic gesture. Shatta Wale officially pledged to provide two years of free performances for the university’s Student Representative Council (SRC) Week celebrations, a move aimed at supporting the student body's social and cultural development. In recognition of his contribution to the creative arts and his motivational impact on the youth, the university leadership honored him with a special citation.

Following the conference, Shatta Wale took to social media to express his gratitude to the UPSA administration for the platform and the recognition. He reiterated his encouragement for students to prioritize their mental growth and evolution, signaling a continued commitment to mentoring the next generation of Ghanaian leaders. The event underscores a growing trend of academic institutions bridging the gap between industry icons and students to foster a culture of practical entrepreneurship in Ghana.
