Lawrence Yeboah Gyan receives laptop from Newmont Ahafo South Mine

Lawrence Yeboah Gyan, the 2025 Bono Regional Best Journalist, has been presented with a Lenovo laptop by Newmont Ahafo South Mine following his success at the 4th Bono Region Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards. The presentation, held on September 19, 2026, was made on behalf of Newmont’s Communications and External Relations Manager to honor Gyan's outstanding contributions to investigative journalism. Newmont served as a lead sponsor of the regional awards, contributing GH‵15,000 to support the recognition of media excellence in the region. Gyan's recognition as the top journalist in the Bono Region was earned through impactful reporting on critical social and health issues. In addition to the regional best journalist title, he secured the Children’s Advocacy Award and the Best Health and Medical Care Report. One of his most significant investigative pieces highlighted public health concerns and cultural issues surrounding the disrespectful treatment of corpses in Ghana, a report that drew attention to necessary reforms in the management of the deceased. Newmont's involvement in the awards ceremony reflects its ongoing commitment to fostering a professional and vibrant media environment in its host communities. By providing specialized prizes like the Lenovo laptop alongside the GJA's plaques and certificates, the mining company aims to equip journalists with the tools needed to enhance their research and reporting capabilities. The partnership between the GJA and corporate sponsors like Newmont is designed to incentivize high-quality, evidence-based journalism that addresses local developmental needs. The 4th Bono Region GJA Awards serve as a vital platform for celebrating media professionals who use their platform to drive social change and advocate for the vulnerable. Gyan’s success in multiple categories underscores the growing importance of investigative reporting in addressing public health and child welfare. The recognition of his work provides a benchmark for other journalists in the region to pursue stories that challenge societal norms and promote the public interest.
