The State Transport Company (STC) has announced an open invitation to individuals, private businesses, and financial institutions to partner with the company in expanding its operational bus fleet. This strategic move aims to address the growing demand for reliable public transportation across the country while reducing the state-owned enterprise's dependence on internal capital for vehicle acquisition. By leveraging external funding, the company hopes to modernize its services and increase the frequency of its routes to serve a larger portion of the Ghanaian public.
Under the proposed collaboration framework, private investors are encouraged to purchase new buses, which STC will then brand and integrate into its existing service network. The Deputy Managing Director for Finance and Administration, Alhaji Nuru Hamidan, highlighted that this model allows for a mutually beneficial arrangement where the private sector provides the assets while STC handles the operational logistics and public service delivery. This approach is specifically designed to enhance the company's service capacity and market reach without the immediate need for significant government or internal budgetary allocations.
The initiative comes at a time when rising passenger volumes are putting increased pressure on STC's current resources. Alhaji Nuru Hamidan emphasized that the partnership offers a secure and structured investment opportunity for those looking to enter the transport industry under the umbrella of a well-established national brand. Interested parties and financial institutions are now being encouraged to engage with the company’s management to explore the specific terms of these collaborative agreements and help shape the future of national transit.
