Residents of Tengekope in the Keta Municipality are set to benefit from significantly improved healthcare delivery following the construction of a new Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHIPS) compound. The facility, which is reported to be between 90% and 95% complete, represents a critical milestone for the Volta Region community, which has long struggled with limited access to essential medical services. Local residents have expressed immense relief and excitement, viewing the project as a life-saving intervention that brings quality healthcare directly to their doorstep.
For years, the people of Tengekope have faced grueling challenges when seeking medical attention, often forced to undertake life-threatening journeys to distant facilities. Mr. Etsevi Adzidobo, a local resident, highlighted that the lack of a nearby clinic was particularly dangerous for vulnerable groups, including pregnant women and young children. These difficulties were frequently compounded by poor road conditions and the high cost of transportation, which acted as significant barriers to timely treatment. The new compound is expected to eliminate these hurdles, providing a localized point of care for minor ailments and maternal health services.
The project has drawn widespread praise for local and national leadership. Residents specifically commended the government of President John Dramani Mahama for its commitment to expanding health infrastructure in underserved areas. Tributes were also paid to the Municipal Chief Executive and the Member of Parliament for their roles in facilitating the project's progress. Beyond healthcare, the community noted that the Keta Municipality is seeing a broader wave of development, with several educational infrastructure projects and other socio-economic initiatives currently underway to improve the general living standards of the populace.
As the CHIPS compound nears full completion, the community is looking forward to its swift commissioning and the deployment of medical personnel. The facility is expected to serve as a hub for preventive health education and primary care, fostering a healthier and more resilient Tengekope. Local leaders have urged the government to maintain this momentum of infrastructure development, ensuring that the progress seen in health and education translates into sustainable economic growth for the entire municipality.
