Joseph Akuerteh Tettey, the Member of Parliament for Kpone-Katamanso, and Municipal Chief Executive Samuel Tetteh Quarshie Morton have conducted a joint inspection of the ongoing construction of the Kpone-Katamanso 24-hour market at Gbetsile. The project, which is currently at the foundation stage, is designed to enhance local trade and provide around-the-clock commercial services to the growing population within the municipality. During the visit, the officials assessed the development of the site, which is divided into three main blocks to accommodate a high volume of daily activity.
The completed market facility is planned to include a comprehensive suite of amenities intended to make it a self-sustaining commercial hub. Beyond standard trading stalls and shops, the development will feature warehouses for storage, a dedicated food court, and essential public services including a mini-clinic and a police station. MP Tettey emphasized that these early-stage inspections are critical for identifying potential structural challenges and ensuring that the contractor adheres to strict construction standards from the ground up, preventing costly corrections in the future.
A significant hurdle identified during the inspection is the poor condition of the access roads leading to the Gbetsile site. Local officials acknowledged that infrastructure connectivity is vital for the market’s ultimate success and the convenience of its users. To address this, the MP and the Chief Executive confirmed that discussions are currently underway with the Ministry of Roads and Highways to prioritize improvements to the transport network surrounding the facility, ensuring that traders and customers can access the market safely and efficiently once it opens.
Once completed, the 24-hour market is expected to serve as a strategic commercial nexus connecting several nearby communities and significantly boosting the local economy. By providing a secure and well-equipped environment for continuous trade, the project aligns with broader regional goals for infrastructure development and economic empowerment. The municipal leadership has pledged to maintain close oversight as construction moves from the foundation phase toward the structural assembly of the market blocks.
