The University of Ghana (UG) has officially debunked a fraudulent notice circulating on various social media platforms concerning the 2026/2027 academic year. University management issued a stern warning to the public, particularly students and parents, to ignore the misinformation which falsely outlines reporting dates and hall allocation fees. The institution clarified that no such communique has been authorized by its administration.
According to the university, the misleading notice claimed that fresh students were expected to report to campus on October 15. Furthermore, the fraudulent document alleged that new students would be required to pay a fee of GH₵2,000 for hall allocation. Continuing students were also targeted by the scam, with the notice falsely asserting that they would need to pay GH₵4,300 to secure access to university residence halls.
Management has emphasized that all legitimate information regarding the academic calendar, admission processes, and residential fees is communicated exclusively through the university’s official website and verified social media handles. Students and the general public are urged to exercise extreme caution and verify any information through these official channels before taking any financial or logistical actions. The university noted that such scams often aim to exploit students during the busy admission and registration periods.
This incident highlights the recurring challenge of misinformation targeting major educational institutions during the transition between academic years. As of now, the University of Ghana has not yet released the official schedule or fee structure for the 2026/2027 academic session. Stakeholders are advised to remain vigilant and report any suspicious notices to the university's communications office to prevent others from falling victim to potential financial fraud.
