A tragic road accident on the Walewale Road has claimed the lives of two people and left at least twelve others injured on October 18, 2026. The collision involved an articulated truck transporting cement, a Toyota Voxy passenger vehicle, and multiple motorbikes. Among those confirmed dead are a female student and a male motorcycle rider. The incident has caused significant concern in the West Mamprusi municipality due to the severity of the impact and the involvement of multiple road users.
The accident occurred when the cement-laden truck reportedly lost control and collided with the Toyota Voxy. In the ensuing chaos, the heavy vehicle also struck several electricity poles and a group of motorbikes. There are currently conflicting accounts regarding the cause of the crash; while some preliminary reports from the Municipal Chief Executive suggest the Voxy may have triggered the loss of control, other witnesses and reports indicate the truck itself may have veered off path first.
Medical response teams and local residents worked to transport the victims to nearby facilities. While early reports indicated twelve people were injured, the Municipal Chief Executive for West Mamprusi later stated that eight individuals were treated for injuries, some of which are life-threatening. Due to the critical nature of their conditions, several survivors were transferred to the Tamale Teaching Hospital for more advanced medical intervention.
Investigations by the police and local authorities are currently ongoing to determine the definitive cause of the collision and to clear the wreckage from the busy thoroughfare. The crash has disrupted power in some areas due to the destroyed electricity poles. Officials have urged motorists to exercise caution on the Walewale stretch as they work to restore normalcy and provide support to the families of the victims.
