William Lamptey and James Gunu Headline Recent Honors in Ghana’s Media and Arts Sector

Ghana’s creative and professional landscapes are witnessing a surge in recognition as various regional and international bodies celebrate exceptional talent. Actor William Lamptey recently shared his profound gratitude after emerging as the winner of the prestigious Africa Monologue Challenge. Lamptey, who triumphed over a competitive field of nearly 2,000 contestants, described the victory as a life-changing milestone. In an interview with Nikki Samonas on Joy Prime, he emphasized the emotional weight of the achievement, crediting divine support for his success in the continental competition. This personal victory highlights the growing influence of Ghanaian actors on the international stage. In the realm of regional development and culture, the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) recently honored the Volta Regional Minister, James Gunu, with a Special Honorary Award. During the 2026 Volta Regional Tourism Awards held in Ho, officials commended Gunu’s strategic leadership in positioning the region as a primary tourism hub and his dedication to preserving Ewe cultural identity. The ceremony, which also recognized over 20 local businesses, emphasized the future of the sector through digital innovation and public-private partnerships. The media industry has similarly seen significant accolades, particularly during the fourth Bono Regional Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) Awards in Sunyani. Biiya Mukusah Ali, a correspondent for the Graphic Communications Group, secured two major wins for his reporting on Agroecology and Tourism. The event, held on January 7, 2025—coinciding with the inauguration of President John Mahama—saw Lawrence Yeboah Gyan named the Overall Best Journalist for the region. NDC Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, who attended the ceremony, reminded journalists of their critical role in ensuring accountability for public projects. Looking ahead, the 6th edition of the Western Gospel Awards (WGA) is already generating excitement, with organizers scheduling the event for November 14, 2026. Lead Consultant Maxwell Bills Ghansah has confirmed that the ceremony will take place at the Western Serene Atlantic Hotel, with PM TheFinest set to host. These various accolades across the monologue, tourism, journalism, and gospel music sectors underscore a robust national culture of rewarding excellence and fostering regional pride.
