The Bekwai Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) has officially submitted the investigation docket concerning Zakaria Abdulai, the headmaster of Obuasi Senior High Technical School (SHTS), to the Attorney-General's Office. The submission follows a police investigation into allegations that the headmaster raped a 20-year-old student. The case file is now undergoing legal review to determine the next steps in the prosecution process.
The complainant reported that on July 25, 2026, the headmaster lured her to his residence where the alleged assault took place. A formal complaint was filed on August 4, 2026, prompting the police to conduct medical examinations and gather witness statements. DOVVSU officials stated that the case has been moved forward for further legal guidance from the state's attorneys after the conclusion of these preliminary investigative steps.
Adding to the gravity of the situation, investigative journalist Manasseh Azure has revealed that the scope of the alleged abuse may extend beyond a single victim. In an upcoming documentary, Azure highlights accounts involving 14 young girls and the same headmaster. The journalist noted that one victim submitted her clothing as physical evidence of the assault, raising significant concerns regarding the safety and supervision of students at the institution.
The Attorney-General’s Office will now assess the evidence to decide on the appropriate charges and whether to proceed to court. The Ghana Police Service has reiterated its commitment to a thorough investigation as public interest in the case grows. Education stakeholders and child safety advocates are closely monitoring the developments, calling for a transparent legal process to ensure justice for all victims involved.
