Academic City University Submits Cybersecurity White Paper to Minister Sam George to Bolster National Digital Defense

Academic City University College has formally presented a comprehensive white paper on cybersecurity to the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, Samuel Nartey George, marking a significant step in Ghana's efforts to secure its digital landscape. Developed following a high-level stakeholder roundtable during National Cybersecurity Awareness Month, the document provides a strategic roadmap for the current administration to enhance the nation's resilience against evolving digital threats. The presentation underscores the growing necessity for academic institutions to actively contribute to national policy and technical frameworks in an increasingly digitized global economy. The white paper is the result of extensive collaboration between academic researchers, private industry leaders, and experts from the Cyber Security Authority (CSA). A primary theme of the report is the urgent shift from mere policy formulation to active, robust implementation. The delegation from Academic City emphasized that while Ghana has established foundational legislative frameworks, the focus must now pivot toward building an operational environment capable of defending critical infrastructure and citizens' data from sophisticated cyber-attacks. Among the key recommendations, the university advocates for a "triple helix" model of innovation that integrates government, industry, and academia into a continuous feedback loop. This model emphasizes the development of a robust pipeline of local talent and the promotion of indigenous technological solutions, reducing the nation's over-reliance on foreign cybersecurity tools. By tailoring defenses to Ghana's specific socio-economic context and ensuring the academic curriculum aligns with industry demands, the report argues that the country can create a more sustainable and secure digital ecosystem. Minister Samuel Nartey George received the initiative with high praise, acknowledging the vital role of intellectual contributions in strengthening the country’s institutional support systems. He called for sustained investment in the sector to ensure that the recommendations translated into actionable results. As the government continues to expand digital services under President John Mahama's leadership, the integration of these academic insights is expected to play a critical role in shaping future legislative updates and protecting the digital rights and assets of all Ghanaians.
