Bolgatanga Goodwill Rotary Club Donates 50 Dual Desks to Solve Furniture Crisis at Kangkoom Primary School

The Bolgatanga Goodwill Rotary Club has stepped in to address a critical furniture shortage at Kangkoom Primary School in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region. By donating 50 dual desks, the club aims to alleviate the dire conditions faced by students, many of whom were previously forced to sit and write on the classroom floors. This intervention follows a comprehensive needs assessment that highlighted the school's struggle to accommodate its growing student population with extremely limited resources.

Prior to this donation, Kangkoom Primary School, which serves 253 pupils, possessed only 28 functional desks. This staggering deficit meant that the vast majority of children lacked basic learning infrastructure. Alexis Ayamdor, President of the Bolgatanga Goodwill Rotary Club, explained that the initiative was funded through Rotary International District Grants. According to Ayamdor, the donation is a key component of the club's broader development agenda, which seeks to complement government efforts by supporting deprived schools and improving the overall quality of education in the region.

The Bongo District Chief Executive (DCE), Ms. Diana Asoketarige Ayamga, commended the Rotary Club for its timely intervention, noting that such partnerships are vital for rural development. She emphasized that the responsibility of providing quality education should not rest solely on the government. In response to the ongoing challenges at the school, Ms. Ayamga announced that the District Assembly has plans to procure additional furniture and is working on recruiting more teachers to ensure better educational outcomes for the students in the district.

Local leaders and school officials have expressed their gratitude for the support, while also stressing the need for the school community to maintain the new furniture properly. The donation serves as a call to action for other development partners and stakeholders to join forces in addressing the infrastructural gaps within the Ghanaian education sector. As the school transitions away from students writing on the floor, the focus now shifts toward sustaining these improvements and further enhancing the learning environment for future generations.
