Ernest Yaw Anim, the Member of Parliament for Sekyere Kumawu, has issued a strong appeal to the government and the Ministry of Education to prioritize the resolution of nationwide infrastructure deficits in Senior High Schools (SHS). Speaking during an event to support local students, Mr. Anim highlighted critical challenges such as classroom congestion and inadequate accommodation facilities that continue to hamper effective teaching and learning across the country. He emphasized that without immediate intervention, these physical constraints could undermine the quality of education and the future prospects of Ghana’s youth.
Alongside his advocacy, the MP provided tangible assistance to 500 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates within his district to facilitate their transition to the second-cycle level. Now in its fourth consecutive year, this initiative saw the distribution of essential school supplies, including trunks, mattresses, and school bags, aimed at easing the financial burden on parents. To further encourage academic excellence, Mr. Anim announced a GH₵500 reward for the best-performing candidates and committed to personally visiting the students at their respective senior high schools to monitor their progress and academic well-being.
Beyond physical resources, the lawmaker addressed the social and professional environment of the educational sector. He called for improved teacher motivation and better working conditions, arguing that well-supported educators are fundamental to delivering high-quality instruction. Simultaneously, Mr. Anim took a firm stance against teacher-student sexual misconduct, condemning such acts and urging educational authorities to strengthen monitoring and oversight mechanisms. He stressed that protecting student welfare is as vital as academic performance in the quest to develop human capital.
Mr. Anim’s efforts are rooted in a long-term vision of producing financially independent and professionally successful young people from the Sekyere Kumawu constituency. By combining grassroots support with national policy advocacy, he aims to leave a legacy of educational empowerment that contributes to the broader development of the nation. The student beneficiaries expressed their gratitude for the support, promising to utilize the donated items responsibly as they embark on the next phase of their academic journey.
