King Mohammed VI of Morocco delivered a significant address to Parliament on October 9, setting out a strategic roadmap aimed at bolstering the nation’s resilience and economic stability. The monarch’s speech focused on the critical pillars of water, energy, and food security, which he identified as fundamental to the kingdom’s long-term sovereignty. He called for a unified national effort to address these challenges, emphasizing that the modernization of infrastructure must be accelerated to meet the growing needs of the population.
The King’s address placed a heavy emphasis on the role of the private sector, urging business leaders to take a more proactive role in driving the national economy. He argued that sustainable growth cannot be achieved by the public sector alone and highlighted the importance of fostering an environment conducive to investment and youth employment. By prioritizing regional development and local action, the King sought to ensure that economic benefits are distributed more equitably across the country, particularly in underserved areas.
Beyond domestic policy, the speech touched on Morocco’s strategic international relationships, specifically regarding migration cooperation with partners such as Spain. King Mohammed VI advocated for comprehensive reforms in migration management, emphasizing the need for a collaborative approach that respects international commitments while protecting national interests. He reiterated Morocco’s dedication to its global partnerships, framing these alliances as vital components of the country’s security and development strategy.
Concluding his address, the King reminded members of Parliament of their duty to the Moroccan people, urging them to fulfill their legislative obligations with integrity. He noted that the successful implementation of the proposed strategies depends on the dedication of the nation's leaders to serve the public interest. This legislative session is expected to be dominated by the reform agenda as the government moves to translate the King’s vision into concrete policy actions.
