On July 16, 2026, the Gallery 1957 at the Kempinski Hotel in Accra will become a hub for cultural dialogue as it hosts the ‘Art for Unity’ exhibition. Organized by the Konyo Museum of Ghanaian Art, the event is scheduled to take place from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM, drawing visual arts enthusiasts and stakeholders from across the capital. The exhibition aims to leverage the power of creative expression to foster a sense of togetherness and healing within a society currently facing various forms of polarization. The exhibition features a curated selection of 23 works from eight distinguished Ghanaian artists, each bringing a unique perspective and style to the collection. The participating artists include E. Owusu Dartey, Kwadwo Ani, James Cudjoe, Frank Asomani, Ayaovi Dabla, Joshua Kwofie, Hacajaka, and Francis Nunoo. The central theme of the showcase is inspired by James Cudjoe’s evocative piece titled ‘Unity,’ which serves as the cornerstone for the exhibition’s narrative. By presenting these diverse works side-by-side, the Konyo Museum highlights the rich and multifaceted landscape of contemporary Ghanaian art. As Ghana navigates complex social dynamics, the ‘Art for Unity’ exhibition seeks to use visual arts as a bridge to connect people from different backgrounds. The organizers emphasize that art possesses a unique ability to transcend barriers and spark meaningful conversations about shared identity and common goals. By providing a platform for these eight artists to showcase their talent, the Konyo Museum of Ghanaian Art hopes to inspire attendees to reflect on the importance of national cohesion. This event is expected to be a significant moment for the local art community, reinforcing the role of cultural institutions in promoting social harmony through creative engagement.
