Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the Member of Parliament for Ofoase-Ayirebi, has challenged the government to provide a transparent account of GH₵650 billion in public funds received during its first two years. The NPP legislator made the demand as the administration prepares to launch a new economic programme requiring US$10 billion in funding. Nkrumah insisted that the Ghanaian taxpayer deserves a clear demonstration of results from past financial commitments before the state embarks on further large-scale spending.
The lawmaker questioned the effectiveness of several previous economic initiatives, particularly noting unfulfilled promises regarding job creation and the boosting of domestic production. He argued that despite the substantial resources at the government's disposal, there has been a lack of tangible impact on the ground. According to Nkrumah, a comprehensive report on the GH₵650 billion already utilized is essential to assess the administration's fiscal management and justify any new financial roadmap.
As the government prepares to pivot toward its proposed US$10 billion initiative, the call for transparency highlights the intensifying scrutiny of the NDC administration's fiscal performance. Nkrumah’s challenge underscores the need for accountability in the management of state resources to ensure that future investments translate into actual economic growth. The government has yet to provide a formal response to the MP's demand for a detailed expenditure breakdown.
