Sprinter bus accident at Sege leaves 22 passengers injured

Approximately 22 people sustained various degrees of injury after a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter bus overturned at Sege in the Greater Accra Region on Wednesday morning. The incident occurred on October 9, 2026, when the vehicle, traveling from Aflao to Accra, suffered a sudden tyre failure. The bus, bearing registration number GW 569-26, reportedly flipped over as a result of the burst, causing significant distress to the passengers on board at approximately 11:30 AM.

Emergency responders, including personnel from the Ghana Police Service and the Ghana National Fire Service, arrived at the scene shortly after the accident took place. The injured victims were quickly evacuated and transported to the Sege Polyclinic for emergency medical attention. While the specific condition of each passenger has not been released, the swift response from local emergency services was instrumental in ensuring all victims received prompt care at the medical facility.

Eyewitnesses at the scene noted that the bus appeared to be carrying a heavy load, which they suggested may have exacerbated the impact of the tyre burst and contributed to the vehicle overturning. During the recovery process, a local welder assisted in securing the cargo scattered at the site. Following the initial rescue operations, police officials arranged for the removal of the wreckage from the road to restore the flow of traffic, although they declined to provide official comments to the media at the site regarding the ongoing investigation.
