Serene Insurance Limited, a member of the First Sky Group, has completed a significant refurbishment of the fifth floor of the Surgical Block at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (KBTH). The project, aimed at enhancing patient care and dignity, involved the provision of 55 new hospital beds and the installation of modern washroom facilities. This intervention is expected to provide a more comfortable environment for patients undergoing surgical recovery at Ghana’s premier teaching hospital.
The renovation work extended beyond the provision of furniture. According to project details, the fifth floor underwent extensive structural and aesthetic improvements, including comprehensive tiling and repainting of the wards. Additionally, the insurance firm updated furniture in shared spaces and upgraded sanitary facilities to ensure they meet modern healthcare standards. The initiative was prompted by concerns raised by the hospital’s Department of Surgery regarding the deteriorating state of the facilities on that specific floor.
Speaking on the motivation behind the project, Mercy Naa Koshie Boampong, the Chief Executive Officer of Serene Insurance, emphasized that the company believes in creating a dignified environment for both patients and healthcare professionals. She noted that a conducive atmosphere is essential for effective healthcare delivery and the speedy recovery of patients. The hospital administration welcomed the gesture, highlighting that such corporate partnerships are vital for maintaining the infrastructure of public health institutions.
This refurbishment is part of a broader commitment by the First Sky Group, the parent company of Serene Insurance, toward supporting specialized medical services in Ghana. The Group has a long-standing history of corporate social responsibility at Korle Bu, particularly in its continued support for kidney transplantation and other renal care services. This latest project reinforces the group's dedication to improving health outcomes and supporting the government’s efforts in providing quality tertiary healthcare services to the public.
