Tema Oil Refinery (TOR) is intensifying its regional collaboration with Burkina Faso following a high-level management visit to the country’s national petroleum company, Sonabhy. Managing Director Edmond Kombat led a delegation to engage with Sonabhy officials, aiming to solidify trade and supply arrangements between the two nations. Currently, Ghana plays a pivotal role in its neighbor's energy security, supplying approximately 40% of Burkina Faso’s total petroleum requirements.
The visit by Mr. Kombat and his management team focused on enhancing the movement, trading, and supply of petroleum products across the border. During the engagement, the TOR delegation expressed appreciation for the strategic support provided by the Ghanaian government. Specifically, they acknowledged the roles of President John Mahama and the Minister of Energy, Dr. John Abdulai Jinapor, in facilitating these cross-border energy partnerships. This political backing is seen as essential for streamlining the logistics and regulatory frameworks required for consistent fuel delivery.
Strengthening these ties with Sonabhy aligns with TOR’s broader strategy to position itself as a central player in the West African energy market. By securing and expanding its market share in Burkina Faso, the refinery not only boosts its own commercial viability but also reinforces Ghana’s status as an energy hub for the sub-region. The ongoing cooperation is expected to lead to more efficient supply chains, potentially improving the reliability of petroleum distribution within the landlocked neighboring state.
