The Kpando-based Marine Police have arrested 31-year-old Vincent Lotsu for allegedly cultivating and possessing suspected cannabis in Mangoase, located within the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region. The arrest occurred on October 13 during a routine patrol when officers discovered a fenced wooden structure and a nearby plantation dedicated to the illegal crop.
During the operation, the police seized 16 sacks of dried leaves believed to be Indian hemp. Lotsu was apprehended at the scene and is currently being held in police custody to assist with further investigations into the source and distribution of the narcotics. The suspect has since been handed over to the Kpando Police Division for formal processing and questioning regarding the unlawful cultivation of the substances.
The seized materials are undergoing forensic examination at a crime laboratory to confirm their chemical composition. This arrest reflects the Marine Police's ongoing strategy to clamp down on drug trafficking and the illegal cultivation of narcotics along the Volta Lake. Authorities have reiterated their commitment to maintaining a constant presence in the area to deter criminal activities and ensure the safety of the local communities.
